As per tradition (that started last year – lol), I am again naming my picks for this year’s Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars. A lot of good movies last year and a lot of fantastic performances, but only one per category stood out!
Here is my prediction for this coming Sunday event!
BEST PICTURE
Okay, I have to give it to The Artist – I’m basing my prediction not because I love the film but because of all the precursors.
SPOILER: The Tree Of Life
BEST DIRECTOR
I have to give it to Martin Scorsese for the genius that is Hugo. I would’ve wanted Hugo to take home the Best Picture, but it’s not in contention or at least in the Top3, I think, out of all the nominees.
SPOILER: Michel Hazanavicius for The Artist
BEST ACTOR
Now, here’s the tricky part. We have two front-runners. First, George Clooney was touted to get the nod for his role in the Descendants early in the game, but feisty actor Jean Dujardin suddenly gained momentum when he bagged the top prize at the Screen Actors Guild and the BAFTA. With that being said, though, I’d still think George will get this one.
SPOILER: Jean Dujardin for The Artist
BEST ACTRESS
Meryl Streep and Viola Davis are head to head on this one, with Streep winning the Globes and the BAFTA and Davis winning the SAG. As much as I love Viola, I still think Meryl’s 3rd Oscar is long overdue for this yet another exemplary performance as the iron lady, Margaret Thatcher.
SPOILER: Viola Davis for The Help
LOCKED: Octavia Spencer for The Help and Christopher Plummer for The Beginners – nominated for Best Actress and Actor in a Supporting Role.
SPOILER: None.
